Man arrested after fire at flat in Ipswich

Property evacuated but no injuries reported

A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a fire at a flat in Ipswich.

Police were alerted by Suffolk Fire & Rescue shortly before 1:20am on Tuesday, 3rd February, to reports of a flat on Withipoll Street being alight.

The building was safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

Following initial investigations, officers arrested a man in his 40s on suspicion of criminal damage – arson endangering life. He has been taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and remains in custody.

Police have urged anyone with information or who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area to contact them directly.
