A 57-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving following a crash on the A12 Bascule Bridge in Lowestoft.

Police were called to the scene at 4:20pm yesterday after reports of a three-vehicle collision involving a Black Audi, a Green Vauxhall Insignia, and a Black VW Passat.

The driver of the Audi was arrested at the scene after failing a roadside breath test.

He was taken to hospital for treatment by the East of England Ambulance Service for multiple injuries, including several fractures, where he remains.

There were no other injuries reported in the collision.

The Bascule Bridge was temporarily closed to allow for investigation work and vehicle recovery, before reopening shortly after 8:30pm.

Police are seeking witnesses and asking any motorists in the area at the time with dashcam footage to review it for potential evidence.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Roads and Armed Policing Team at Suffolk Police.
