The development of the Cultural Quarter in Lowestoft is set to move forward following the approval of revised plans by East Suffolk Council's Planning Committee North.

The project, aimed at revitalising the area around Battery Green car park and Marina Road, promises to deliver a vibrant public space that includes venues for music, exhibitions, and a range of creative activities, alongside hospitality options.

East Suffolk Council Leader Caroline Topping expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating that it will transform an unused area into a major cultural hub that attracts both locals and tourists to engage in various activities throughout the day and evening.

The cultural quarter is part of broader regeneration efforts in Lowestoft and stands to provide significant economic and community benefits, including supporting local businesses, creating job opportunities, and attracting investment.

Funding for the project comes from the £29.2 million Local Regeneration Fund, and construction is scheduled to begin in winter 2026/27 with completion expected by winter 2027/28.
