"Manipulative" man jailed for strangling and intimidating woman in Suffolk

A man who strangled a woman and intimidated her in an attempt to make her withdraw her complaint against him has been jailed for three years.

Joseph Cox, 31, formerly from Clare, was sentenced after pleading guilty to intentional strangulation and witness intimidation.

PC Aaron Bean, from Suffolk Police, said: “Cox is a manipulative man who attempted to intimidate the victim into withdrawing her complaint against him, and attempted to evade police by travelling out of county."

Cox pleaded not guilty to: two counts of assault by beating, stalking and criminal damage.

These charges were left to lay on file.

He's also been made the subject of a 15 year restraining order.
