A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving following a four-vehicle collision on the A143 in Ixworth.

The incident occurred just before 8am on Saturday, 3rd October, between Ixworth and Stanton. It involved two BMWs traveling in the same direction and a Claas forage harvester and New Holland tractor towing a trailer in the opposite direction.

The driver of the BMW 635 Coupe, a man in his 50s, was trapped in his vehicle and required extraction by emergency services. He was transported to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries.

Meanwhile, the driver of the BMW M140i left the scene, leading to a police search. A 48-year-old man was arrested in Bury St Edmunds later that afternoon, suspected of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop after an accident. He was released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Additionally, the New Holland tractor driver, aged 24, was arrested on suspicion of drug-driving and has also been released under investigation.

The road remained closed throughout the afternoon to facilitate the recovery and cleaning work, with police leaving at 5:30pm.

Officers are seeking witnesses, particularly drivers with dashcam footage that might assist in their investigation.
