A man from Ipswich has been sentenced to two years in prison after admitting to stealing items worth £20,000 during a burglary earlier this year.

Russell Warren, 38, whose address was listed as no fixed abode but hailing from the Ipswich area, was imprisoned following a guilty plea.

The burglary took place between 22nd and 27th January on Chevallier Street in Ipswich.

Warren stole a range of items including jewellery, bags, and clothing, alongside a passport.

Police were alerted on 26th January after a neighbour saw lights on inside the property and noticed the kitchen door was unsecured.

Upon investigation, officers found smashed windows and the victim's belongings scattered throughout the house.

Among stolen items were jewellery sentimental to the victim, watches, and a spare key, according to the police.

Detective Constable Natalie Cole led the investigation, praising the victim for her bravery in delivering her Victim Personal Statement in court:

"The burglary has had a very significant detrimental impact on the victim, both mentally and emotionally, as she no longer feels comfortable or secure in her home.

"In her victim statement she described how, when she realised her jewellery had been taken, especially that belonging to her late mother and relatives, she collapsed and described herself feeling ‘completely distraught’ and ‘utterly broken’."
