A 39-year-old man from Ipswich has been jailed after pushing a woman to the ground and taking her rucksack in September of last year.

Scott Hyam, of Ramsgate Drive, appeared at Ipswich Crown Court on 22nd January, where he denied a robbery charge but pleaded guilty to assault by beating.

He was sentenced to 15 weeks in prison.

The incident took place on 13th September in the area near Wherstead Road and Croft Street.

Police were called shortly after 2:15pm to reports that a woman had been pushed to the ground by a man known to her, who then stole her rucksack containing keys, a purse, and other personal items.

Officers spoke with the victim, who was uninjured. Using CCTV footage, they tracked Hyam as he crossed Stoke Bridge and ran towards Ipswich town centre.

When officers pursued him, Hyam refused to stop. He was eventually detained with the help of police dog Thor and his handler.
