A volunteer who helps people with dementia in Haverhill has been recognised for his compassion and hard work in the community.
Dennis Wendell, 85, works closely with a group called Terrific Tuesdays, that also supports people's families and carers.
Mr Wendell has been presented with a certificate from Suffolk County Council.
He said: “It’s an honour but it’s not for me, it’s for all the volunteers and the group in general.
"What we are here for is to help people when dementia is involved.
“It just shows how much need there is for this because the situation with the illness is getting quite bad these days.
“It’s as much for the carers as it is the cared-for, because they realise they are not on their own.
"It’s a very hard job to do,”
The group runs from Westend Church, in Withersfield Road, between 11am and 2pm.
Cllr Joe Mason, who presented Mr Wendell with his award, said the group provided friendship, dignity, reassurance, and a vital sense of belonging.
He added: “His work is driven not by recognition, but by genuine compassion and lived experience as a carer, which clearly shapes the understanding and empathy he brings to everything he does.
“His impact is felt quietly but profoundly by those he supports, and he is widely respected for his dedication, reliability and kindness.”
