Police are appealing for information following two serious incidents in Haverhill, including a racially aggravated assault that left a man injured.

The first incident occurred on 18th April when a man in his 40s was attacked on the old railway line footpath at around 7pm.

While walking with his partner, he encountered a group of approximately five young males who directed verbal abuse at him.

When he attempted to engage with them, one of the males struck him on the head with a large branch.

The victim was subsequently found in the car park of Tesco's supermarket on Cangle Road after the ambulance service was alerted at 7.45pm.

He was taken to Addenbrooke’s hospital, where his condition is reported as stable.

Police are treating this as a racially aggravated grievous bodily harm case.

Knife Incident

In a separate incident, police were alerted at 7.32pm to reports of a man wielding a large machete-type weapon near Tesco on Cangle Road.

The suspect was observed shouting at passersby before leaving the area.

Fortunately, no threats were directly made and there were no injuries.

The suspect is described as a white man dressed in a black jumper and black trousers.

The police are investigating potential connections between the two incidents.

Officers are reviewing CCTV footage and conducting additional inquiries to clarify the circumstances.

Anyone with relevant footage or driving in the area with dash cameras is encouraged to contact police.
