Newmarket man pleads guilty to manslaughter

A man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in relation to an incident that happened in Newmarket last year.

On Saturday the 8th of March 2025, officers were called at 3.40pm to reports of an altercation involving four people in High Street.

Two men were injured during the incident and were taken to hospital. One of the injured parties, aged 45, was discharged later that evening.

The other casualty, aged 71, remained in Addenbrooke’s Hospital in a critical condition where he died on Tuesday 18th of March.

26-year-old Levi Williams, of Holland Park, Newmarket, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm. He was initially bailed before later being rearrested and charged with murder.

On Friday the 10th of April, at Peterborough Crown Court, Williams pleaded guilty to manslaughter. He was bailed to re-appear at the court on the 4th of June for sentencing.

A 24-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm, and a 45-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of affray, have been been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
