Fire service investigation into Dunwich heath fire says cause 'cannot be determined'
Investigators say that any evidence was destroyed due to the severity of the fire.

Following an investigation into the Dunwich Heath Wildfire, Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service believe that the cause of the fire 'cannot be determined'.
The service says that the severity of the fire destroyed any potential evidence that could point to the cause of the fire. However, investigators were able to identify the area in which it began.
A spokesperson for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Following a detailed investigation into the Dunwich Heath wildfire, Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service has concluded that the cause of the fire cannot be determined."
"While investigators were able to identify the general area where the fire originated, the severity of the fire meant that any potential evidence that may have identified a cause was destroyed."
"We would like to thank all partner agencies, landowners, volunteers and local communities who supported the response and wider investigation. Their collective efforts helped contain one of Suffolk's largest wildfires and protect nearby homes, businesses and critical infrastructure."
"Although the cause remains undetermined, this incident serves as a reminder of how quickly fire can spread during periods of prolonged dry weather. We continue to encourage residents and visitors to take extra care in the countryside and follow wildfire prevention advice to help protect Suffolk's communities, wildlife and landscapes."
Councillor Tristan Gale, Suffolk County Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning, Devolution and the Fire Service, said: "While it is disappointing that the exact cause cannot be conclusively established, the incident reinforces an important message for all of us. As periods of hot, dry weather become more common, we must all remain vigilant and do what we can to stop the risk of wildfire."
