A cyclist has suffered serious injuries after a road traffic collision in Sudbury, prompting police to appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage.

Officers were called at approximately 2.30pm on Tuesday 5 May following reports of a collision between a bicycle and a white Peugeot Expert van on the A134, between the Sudbury Road roundabout junction and Mills Lane.

The cyclist, a man in his 70s, was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital for treatment and remains in a serious condition.

A 41-year-old man from Essex was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug-driving and taken to the Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre. He has since been released under investigation, pending the results of blood tests.

The A134 was closed between the Sudbury Road junction and Bull Lane in Long Melford while collision investigation work was carried out. The road reopened at around 9.30pm.

Police are now asking for witnesses to come forward, including drivers who were in the area at the time and may have dashcam footage that could assist the investigation.
