Christian Walton signs new Ipswich Town contract until 2028
Walton originally joined Ipswich from Brighton & Hove Albion on loan in 2021 and made the move permanent in January 2022
Ipswich Town goalkeeper Christian Walton has signed a new contract with the club, extending his stay at Portman Road until the summer of 2028.
Walton, who originally joined Ipswich from Brighton & Hove Albion on loan in 2021 and made the move permanent in January 2022, has been a key figure in the team.
He has played 117 matches for the Blues and played a key role in their consecutive promotions from League One to the Premier League.
During Ipswich’s League One promotion campaign in the 2022/23 season, Walton won the Golden Glove award, keeping 23 clean sheets. He has continued strong form this season, boasting nine clean sheets in just 19 appearances, taking his total for the club to 50.
Manager Kieran McKenna said: “We’re happy that Christian has agreed a new contract with the club.
“He’s been an important part of the playing squad for a few seasons now and has had some fantastic moments at the football club as well as some challenges along the way. He’s always shown a fantastic professionalism and dedication that has been an important part of the culture here.
“He’s in good form currently and has been an important part of the defensive unit in recent weeks and, alongside Alex Palmer and David Button, is part of a strong goalkeeping unit who push each other to get better every day and are determined to help the team achieve our goals this season.”
Speaking about his new deal, Walton said: “I’m absolutely delighted.
“It’s been an incredible journey since I signed for the club so to extend that for another couple of years is really special.
“I’ve been here for quite a long time now and, when I came, it was at a time for me when I wanted to settle down, find some stability and be at a club for a little while. I didn’t realise how big the club was when I first signed but when you take time to look back it’s been an amazing experience to be a part of.
“I want to continue that now and hopefully we can have some more special experiences together.”
