New charity fund launched to support marine conservation in Suffolk and Essex

A new grant fund to support marine conservation projects around the coastal borders of Suffolk and Essex has been launched by Harwich Haven Authority (HHA).
The Trust Port has partnered with national charity Sea-Changers to launch the new Harwich Haven Fund, starting with an initial £10,000 donation.
It will support projects in HHA’s area of responsibility – ranging from citizen science to direct action – alongside engagement and education initiatives that teach people about conservation, stewardship and sustainability to help preserve the area for the next generation.
Small grants of up to £500 are available year-round, while the main grant scheme for amounts up to £2,500 is open until the end of September.

“Investing in grassroots innovation is an important way to encourage fresh thinking and practical solutions that will help shape the future of our Haven.
“This partnership reflects our commitment as a Trust Port to bring environmental stewardship and supports our wider ambition to drive a more sustainable future for our coastal communities.”
The new fund is the latest in a plethora of sustainability and social value initiatives introduced by HHA – with successes including its popular Coastal Discoveries beach school programme delivered in partnership with Boskalis Westminster and the popular Swim Safe scheme, now in its seventh year.
As well as monetary contributions, successful applicants to the fund may also benefit from future additional, relevant support from HHA, particularly in the marine space.
