Over 30 teams are hitting the water in Ipswich for an annual Dragon Boat Race.

The noisy and colourful event is raising money for Brave Futures, which supports young victims of sexual abuse across the county.

The event had to be postponed due to bad weather, but is now set to start at 10am today (27th September)

Hannah Walker Fundraising and Marketing Manager from Brave Futures, said: “We can’t wait to see everyone on the water – with sunnier skies and even stronger paddle power!”

From local businesses and community groups to enthusiastic first-timers and returning favourites, teams will go head-to-head in colourful dragon boats in a bid to be crowned champions of the river.

The day will also feature live music, performances, street food and games.

Sandra Lucas Corporate and Events Fundraiser for Brave Futures, said: “This event is about so much more than racing – it’s a powerful show of community, courage, and collective support for the children and young people we work with.

"With over 30 teams taking part, and so much happening off the water too, it’s set to be an unforgettable day. We’d love to see as many people as possible coming along to cheer, celebrate, and make some noise for a fantastic cause.”

The race is free to attend and all are welcome to come cheer on the teams and learn more about how to support Brave Futures’ work.

The charity helps children across Suffolk and Norfolk who have experienced sexual abuse.
