Care home residents in Glemsford have been evacuated after a car caught fire outside.

The blaze at The Briars Residential Care Home, Hunts Hill, involved a hybrid car that was on charge in the staff car park at the rear of the building.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue say the vehicle was well alight.

Despite be close to the main building, the structure was not affected by the fire.

Staff and residents evacuated the premises as a precaution before the arrival of the firefighters.

Crews used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to put out the fire and cool the car's battery.

The flames were put out by 11:22am, although emergency services say the incident 'remains ongoing.'
