Police are asking for help to identify a woman found dead in the River Waveney at The Quay in Beccles.

Officers were called by a member of the public just after 8am yesterday morning (1st January), reporting that there was a body under the bridge.

Ambulance crews attended and recovered the woman from the river, confirming she was deceased.

At this stage, the death is being treated as unexplained, although there is currently no evidence to suggest foul play. The Coroner has been informed.

Police have not yet identified the woman and are seeking information from the public to help piece together her final movements.

They have issued the following description of the woman: she is white, aged between 60 and 70, of petite build, with short curly brown or copper hair.

She was wearing a cream cardigan, blue top, white jeans, and white boots, and may have been carrying a pink coat, torch, and umbrella.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have seen a woman matching this description near The Quay before 8am today to get in touch.

If you have any information that may assist police inquiries, you are asked to contact East CID at Lowestoft Police Station.
