Fire crews tackle blaze at Suffolk primary school
Smoke was reported at East Bergholt C of E Voluntary Primary School earlier this morning
Fire crews are currently fighting a blaze at a local primary school in Suffolk at the East Bergholt C of E Voluntary Primary School.
Firefighters were called to reports of heavy smoke earlier this morning, there are no reported casualties.
A spokesperson for Suffolk Fire and Rescue said:
"Crews were called to reports of black smoke and flames coming from a building at the school. On arrival, firefighters found a fire involving a single-storey building approximately 30m x 50m in size, with smoke visible from the A12.
"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets and 45mm jets to tackle the fire, which had spread unseen under a flat roof.
"There are no casualties reported, and all persons are accounted for. The school was unoccupied at the time.
"Due to the scale of the incident, additional fire appliances and support vehicles were mobilised, including assistance from Essex Fire and Rescue Service. The Environment Agency and Suffolk Police have been informed, and our colleagues at the Joint Emergency Planning Unit are coordinating with Suffolk County Council's education team.
"Crews remain on scene, and the incident is ongoing. Further updates will be provided when more information becomes available."
