Last lion at Suffolk zoo dies
The 17-year-old lioness's passing marks the end of an era at Africa Alive
The last remaining lion at a zoo in Suffolk has died at the age of 17.
Lioness Kaya was born at Africa Alive in Kessingland in 2009 and was part of a pride that began in 2005.
The lioness had been under close observation by her dedicated keepers and the zoo's veterinary care team due to her declining health.
Recent welfare assessments indicated a decrease in her mobility and changes in her behaviour.
Despite Kaya's passing, Africa Alive says it remains committed to its lion conservation efforts.
The zoo is collaborating with the EEP breeding programme and plans to share updates on future developments.
