St Benet’s Catholic Primary School in Beccles is set to expand its nursery provision after securing government funding.

The school will receive a portion of £45 million allocated for opening and expanding school-based nurseries across the country.

This initiative is part of the Government's second phase, aiming to create an additional 6,000 childcare places nationwide.

The first phase is already underway, delivering up to 7,000 new places.

Local MP Jess Asato welcomed the funding news and commissioned Suffolk County Council to prepare for the third phase of funding:

"This news is incredibly welcome, particularly for parents struggling with the cost of living who will benefit from greater flexibility to increase or change their work hours.

“As a parent, I know the challenges of balancing work with a family life. This Government’s focus on cutting childcare costs and simplifying the school run is incredibly welcome.

"I look forward to working with the County Council to bid for more school-based nurseries in our area.”
