Council workers in Babergh and Mid Suffolk set to strike
Their dispute over pay and conditions is set to escalate
Local government workers are set to escalate strike action next week, protesting against pay and conditions.
Members of the Unite union will walk out on Monday, 6th July, and Wednesday, 8th July.
This industrial action includes those responsible for council housing repair and maintenance in areas such as Bristol, Southwark, Stoke-on-Trent, Newham, Leeds, and Babergh and Mid Suffolk.
The union has hinted that workers from further local authorities might join the dispute.
The disagreement centres around a rejected 3.2% pay increase offered to the workers.
Unite's general secretary, Sharon Graham, expressed strong support for the strikers, stating that local government craftworkers have faced disappointing pay increases for too long.
She affirmed, “These workers deserve far better and Unite is fully behind them as they escalate strike action.”
