Dame Helen Mirren hints at The Thursday Murder Club 2 and future plans

Stars of The Thursday Murder Club, Dame Helen Mirren and Celia Imrie, joined Ken Bruce on Greatest Hits Radio to talk about their latest roles, and what it's like being an older actor in the industry. The pair also hinted at a second film, saying: "We might do another Murder Club...".
The pair are known for their iconic roles over the years. With Dame Helen appearing as Queen Elizabeth II in the film The Queen and DCI Jane Tennison in Prime Suspect, and Celia Imrie in the Bridget Jones series of films and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again!
Now, as they both take on roles in The Thursday Murder Club, the murder mystery written by Richard Osman, they spoke to Ken, reflecting on their roles and what lies ahead for them as older, more experienced actors.
Dame Helen explained: "I was pleased (about the role), I wasn't massively surprised because having read the book, I have to say embarrassingly that I thought ‘’ohh if they make a movie of this, I hope they ask me to play that role'. I knew which role I'd be asked to play. Did you feel the same Cels?"

With her co-star going on to admit that she hadn't actually read it, despite hearing rumours she could be asked. Celia explained: "I guess I did (know), yes. And I'd sort of heard rumours about it. But I'm very superstitious, so I didn't want to spook myself and so I didn't read it. I was just sort of rather hoping."
Taking place in a residential home, The Thursday Murder Club sees Dame Helen and Celia join several well-known actors, so when Ken asked them about being more experienced actors, Celia admitted they can't complain as they're still young at heart.
"We seem to be having a rather marvellous time at the minute," she explained. "Which maybe hasn't been so in the past, but there seem to be... I think people are aware of the fact that, you know, we're young at heart and we can carry on, you know, ignore our age. Because there's so much more to do, so we can't complain really at the moment can we?"
Celia went on to say: "Particularly for us, we don't ever give up and so to have projects like this and parts like this, it's marvellous for us."
Celia's book Meet Me at Rainbow Corner has just been released in paperback, and she told Ken that as well as writing, she plans to continue acting, however she doesn't have any immediate plans.
"We are lucky, but I quite like not knowing what's coming next. It is rather thrilling. It's all part of the way we have to see our lives," revealed Celia. "But I do find it quite exciting, so I really don't know what's next."
Will there be a Thursday Murder Club 2?
Dame Helen went on to reveal she thinks she will be doing another series of MobLand, which she starred in along with Pierce Brosan and Tom Hardy.
The actor explained: "I think we're going back to do another series of MobLand, which is a series I did with Pierce. So I'm hoping that we do and we're kind of crossing our fingers that we might do another Murder Club. Another Thursday Murder Club that would be... we'd love to."
