Woman who died named in murder investigation
Sarah-Louise Pennington was found dead yesterday
Extra time has been granted to question a man, arrested on suspicion of murder, in Stoke-on-Trent, as the victim has been named.
Police were called to an address at Oakwell Court, Longton, at around 3.30am yesterday (Sunday 12 July).
The body of a woman was found inside.
Her family continues to be supported by specialist officers at this time. Officers can now confirm the woman’s identity as 24 year-old Sarah-Louise Pennington, from Stoke-on-Trent.
A 30 year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, who was arrested on suspicion of murder, remains in custody and will continue to be questioned, after extra time was granted.
Detective Inspector Kirsty Oldfield, from the major investigations department, said: “We’re working incredibly hard to progress our lines of enquiry into this investigation and to support the woman’s family at such a traumatic time.
“We know the outer cordon is affecting a lot of residents’ access to their homes and we are working to reduce the size of the cordon as soon as we can.”
“I’d like to reassure the community that we are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with this investigation and our enquiries are moving at pace.
“Officers will be out carrying out house-to-house enquiries and providing visible reassurance in the area.
“I want to thank everyone who has already been in touch with information and I’d ask anyone who hasn’t already been in touch with officers that might be able to help with our enquiries to contact us.”
