Prolific rural burglar sentenced
He stole a wide range of items including bicycles, gardening tools, equipment, watering cans, and even trophies
A 59-year-old man has been sentenced to prison after carrying out a months-long burglary spree across rural Cheshire.
Andrew Winter, of St Marys Street, Whitchurch, appeared at Chester Crown Court on 4 August where he was sentenced to two years, four months, and 26 days behind bars.
He had earlier pleaded guilty to multiple offences, including attempted burglary with intent to steal, ten counts of burglary other than a dwelling, burglary, and theft from the person of another.
The offences took place between 6 December 2024 and 1 July 2025, affecting communities across Malpas, Allstretton, Chester, Tilstone Fernall, Tiverton, Whitchurch, and Wrenbury.
Winter specifically targeted sheds and outbuildings, stealing a wide range of items including bicycles, gardening tools, equipment, watering cans, and even trophies.
Police say the burglaries caused significant distress in the local area, with many residents left feeling vulnerable.
Winter’s sentencing brings some closure to those affected, and police are continuing efforts to support rural communities in bolstering property security.
Sgt Roy Wellings from the Chester Local Policing Proactive Team, said: “Winter was prolific and appeared to be indiscriminate in what he stole. It appears that if it wasn’t nailed down he took it.
“He’s now paying the price for his actions.”
