Water safety reminder in Staffordshire despite cooler weather

Even though the weather's cooled down, we're still being urged to be careful about getting into open water in Staffordshire.

Multiple emergency crews were called to a lake in Stoke-on-Trent on the evening of Monday 8 June.

There were reports of three children in a lake off Ford Green Road.

But Staffordshire Fire and Rescue says - even though four appliances attended, along with Staffordshire Police and the West Midlands Ambulance Service, no one was found in the water or nearby.

Group Manager Martin Weaver said: “Crews determined that the children had made their own way home before we arrived.

“I would remind people that whilst open water might seem inviting, there can be hidden dangers such as sharp items and strong currents.

“The water is also likely to be much colder than you expect, making it hard to swim.

“If you get into trouble in water, remember to float on your back until help arrives.”
