Douglas Beever was sentenced to three years in prison when he appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday, April 30.

The 45-year-old, of Warrington, had previously admitted criminal damage, threats to kill and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Police were called at around 1.53am on Wednesday, March 4, after one of Beever’s neighbours reported that he had been using an axe to strike their front door, breaking the glass.

The incident followed ongoing issues, with the neighbour having asked Beever to be quieter after being woken by doors slamming and loud voices during the early hours.

Beever became aggressive towards the victim, who returned inside their home.

He then appeared outside the front door with an axe, made threats to harm and kill the victim, and damaged the door and a bin shed.

Police attended the address and Beever was arrested.

DC Miles Roughley said: “I welcome the custodial sentence handed to Beever, who clearly could not control his temper and made some incredibly frightening threats to a neighbour, even smashing their door with a dangerous weapon.

“This kind of behaviour cannot be tolerated, and Beever was swiftly arrested and charged for his actions.”
