A 34-year-old man has been charged with arson and assault following a series of incidents in Leek.

Vincent Stonier, from the Cheadle area, has also been charged with harassment to put someone in fear of violence and criminal damage to property valued under £5,000.

It follows a car being found on fire after a domestic incident at a property off Vicarage Road on Tuesday (29 September), police say.

They were called to the address at around 9.30am, and say a suspect left the area in a vehicle before officers arrived.

Later that day at 1.30pm, two vehicles were involved in a collision on Basford Lane in Cheddleton.

A woman who was driving one of the vehicles was taken to hospital by a relative.

The driver of the other vehicle left the scene on foot and was believed to have been involved in the earlier incident.

Police closed the road while officers searched a nearby wooded area, with a drone from the National Police Air Service also used to help with the search.

Stonier was later arrested on Fountain Street in Leek.

He remains in custody and is due to appear at North Staffordshire Justice Centre today (Thursday 1 October).
