Authorities have ordered the owner of the Wade building in Burslem to carry out urgent remedial works after inspections revealed that parts of the Grade II listed structure pose a risk to public safety.

Officials stated that a long-term plan for the historic building is essential, with unresolved problems increasing the threat to its future.

This order is part of a broader initiative addressing the city's heritage emergency, involving over 100 actions on historic properties across Burslem over the past year.

The city council is utilising all available powers, investing in the buildings it owns, and collaborating with partners to safeguard Burslem’s heritage.

However, officials emphasise that tackling the heritage emergency requires property owners to actively engage in preserving their buildings to prevent irreversible damage.
