Two men have been jailed after around 1,000 cannabis plants were discovered in a building in Stoke-on-Trent.

Elvis Abazi, 24, and Valter Metkay, 34, both of no fixed address, were sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court after pleading guilty in the production of cannabis.

Abazi was jailed for one year and eight months, while Metkay was sentenced to two years and six months in prison.

Officers attended a property off Lichfield Street in Hanley on 6 December, where they found the cannabis growing. The two men were located hiding inside the building and arrested at the scene.

Police say work continues to tackle cannabis cultivation and organised crime in Staffordshire.
