Tunstall's historic Clock Tower has chimed for the first time since November 2024, after undergoing repairs.

The Grade II listed Clock Tower was erected in 1893 and is known as one of the most recognisable landmarks in the town.

The repair project focused on making sure the tower will work reliably for years.

It was part of wider improvement plans for the town.

£4.5 million of government funding was allocated for the redevelopment of the town centre.

"...an essential part of Tunstall’s story"

Councillor Finlay Gordon-McCusker cabinet member for regeneration, infrastructure and transport at Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said: “The Clock Tower is an essential part of Tunstall’s story and a visible reminder of the civic pride that built the town. When a landmark like this falls silent, something important is lost.

“Restoring the chimes is a statement of intent: that Tunstall’s heritage matters, and that we will look after what previous generations built. This work secures the tower for the long term and forms part of a wider programme to renew the town centre properly – respecting its history while investing in its future.

“Regeneration does not begin with erasing the past. It begins by taking responsibility for it, and then building forward with confidence.”
