Man given court order after allegations involving Crewe religious group

He's the sixth person to be handed a Slavery and Trafficking Risk Order

A man arrested following allegations involving a religious group in Crewe has been handed an interim Slavery and Trafficking Risk Order (STRO).

A 48-year-old British national was arrested on suspicion of human trafficking offences on Thursday 7 May at an address in Crewe.

He's been conditionally bailed, but the Slavery and Trafficking Risk Order imposes a number of restrictions on what he can and can't do.

This all follows on from a police operation on 29 April, where 500 officers raided three properties in Crewe related to the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light.

Officers say they were made aware in March of allegations of serious sexual offences, forced marriage and modern slavery.

All of the offences involved one victim, a woman, who was a member of the group at the time the offences reportedly occurred in 2023.

Officers are reiterating that this is not an investigation into the religion.

The man's STRO is the sixth to be handed out in relation to the allegations.

He must comply with the following conditions:
