Staffordshire Police has responded to the latest inspection findings from His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS).

The PEEL inspection report recognised several improvements, such as safeguarding vulnerable people and enhancing outcomes for victims. It also emphasised the force's dedication to prevention, problem-solving, and neighbourhood policing.

Despite these positive remarks, the report noted areas that need significant improvement, including inadequate call handling and inconsistent attendance times.

Staffordshire Police's Acting Chief Constable Becky Riggs welcomed the report, saying that whilst recognising advancements in safeguarding and problem-solving, improving public contact is crucial.

Riggs assured the public that efforts to enhance performance are underway, including increased oversight in the control room, refined call handling processes, and aligning resources with demand.

An additional 53 police officers and 15 staff members have been invested into contact and control functions.

Furthermore, the report highlighted the need for better governance and understanding of current and future demand.

These findings are being addressed through enhanced performance monitoring and strategic workforce planning.

Leadership stability is also a focus, with Acting Chief Constable Riggs remaining resolute in providing effective accountability throughout Staffordshire Police.

To enhance investigations, a desk-based service aims to provide swifter responses and leave frontline officers available for urgent situations.

Additionally, a rapid response team has been set up to manage increased demand, particularly over the summer months.

By deploying officers from other areas, the force seeks to improve response times for people requiring immediate assistance.

Riggs expressed gratitude to the force's officers and staff, recognising their efforts amidst considerable demand.

She confirmed the force's commitment to ensuring public safety and delivering the expected service to victims.

Staffordshire Police remains dedicated to making necessary changes while continuing progress through investment in staff, innovation, and strategic partnerships.
