William Shaw sentenced to over two years for violent crime
William Shaw, a 19-year-old from Endon, has been sentenced to more than two years in a Young Offenders’ Institution following his admission to robbing a petrol station worker and resisting arrest in the Staffordshire Moorlands.
Shaw appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 30th July, where he acknowledged the robbery that occurred in September 2025.
He received a two-year-and-four-month sentence and is required to pay a surcharge of £228 upon release.
The incident took place at around 1.30am on 11th September last year, when Shaw stole a pack of beer and pastries after assaulting the victim at the petrol station.
Upon the arrival of officers, Shaw resisted arrest by kicking and spitting at one of them.
Although Shaw initially provided 'no comment' during interviews with police, he later admitted to the offences in court.
Detective Constable Carla Statham, who handled the case, commented on the sentencing: “This was a violent robbery which left the victim understandably shaken and scared in their place of work."
Statham expressed satisfaction with the sentencing, reiterating the commitment to pursue those causing distress in the community.
