Former care worker found guilty of eleven sexual assaults against children
Thomas Beckerleg abused his position of trust, a jury found
A former care worker has been found guilty of eleven sexual assaults against children.
A jury convicted 37-year-old Thomas Beckerleg, of Stafford, of eight counts of abusing a position of trust through sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 17, and three counts of sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15.
He was found guilty yesterday, Tuesday 20th October.
How the case came to light
Beckerleg was arrested by West Mercia Police in 2023, after one of the victims came forward and told officers what had happened.
A separate investigation was launched after another victim reported a sexual assault, according to the force investigating alongside West Mercia Police.
Beckerleg denied all the offences following his arrest, but a jury has now convicted him after hearing the evidence gathered against him.
What police said
Detective Sergeant Bethan Otter, of the public protection unit, said: "I'm pleased that we've been able to work alongside our colleagues at West Mercia Police to build all of the evidence needed to make sure Beckerleg answers to his crimes."
She said: "I would like to commend the bravery of the victims in coming forward and telling us what happened to them and I hope this conviction offers them some form of closure."
What happens next
Beckerleg is due to be sentenced at Stafford Crown Court on 14th January 2027.
