A man has been jailed for eight years and six months in Wolverhampton after he was found guilty of raping and sexually assaulting one woman, and causing harm to another, stubbing out cigarettes on her back.

Mihai Marian, who's 43-years-old, was sentenced following a trial at Stafford Crown Court.

He's been placed on the Sex Offenders Register.

A Staffordshire police spokesperson said: "At the trial, jurors heard how Marian had met one of the victims through an online dating app.

"During one encounter with the victim, he stubbed out cigarettes on her back against her will.

"Marian was then pursued by Leicestershire Police after he raped and sexually assaulted a different woman in October of the same year.

"He was found guilty of the offences on 29th May and handed an eight-year prison sentence for rape, four years for the sexual assault, to be served concurrently, and six months imprisonment for the actual bodily harm, also to be served concurrently."

Police Constable Steven Franklin who led the case said: "This was a horrifying case in which Marian showed no remorse and refused to admit his guilt.

“Thankfully, the jury saw through his lies and rightly convicted him for his offences.

“I commend the bravery of the victims for coming forward and thank Leicestershire Police for their work in assisting us in this case.”
