17-yo arrested in Stafford suspected of making an explosive device

Homes had to be evacuated

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of making an explosive device in Stafford.

Staffordshire Police say the boy, from Stafford, was arrested at 4.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 10 September) on suspicion of making/manufacturing an explosive with intent to commit an offence and send an offensive message/matter by public communications network.

A small number of properties were evacuated for a short time as a precaution.

He remains in custody.

Staffordshire Police say they are treating this as an isolated incident with no wider threat to the community.
