Man jailed for six years after sexually abusing child in Stafford

A man has been jailed after sexually assaulting a child in Stafford.
Simon David Evans, 39, of no fixed abode, has been given a six-year extended prison sentence at Stafford Crown Court.
He was found guilty of the sexual assault of a girl under 13 and four counts of assaulting a girl under 13 by touching.
Police began investigating after a family member of the girl came forward and contacted officers.
Evans was arrested shortly afterwards and questioned in custody, where he denied the offences.
He's also been given a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Detective Inspector Hayley Eaton from Staffordshire Police said “I’d like to commend the victim for her bravery in coming forward and telling someone what happened.
“I’m happy that we’ve secured justice for her and I hope this serves as an example to anyone who may be a victim of sexual assault that we will take action and pursue offenders."
