Teenager sentenced to 10 years for rape and assault in Crewe
Ryan Upton receives lengthy sentence at Chester Crown Court
Ryan Upton, a 19-year-old from Moorland Road, Sandbach, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to rape and assault by penetration of a teenage girl in Crewe.
The sentencing took place at Chester Crown Court on Tuesday, 26th May.
Upton committed the offences on the evening of 26th December 2024, when he sexually assaulted the girl while she was asleep at an address in Crewe.
After raping the victim, she managed to escape and seek help from a passer-by who assisted in contacting the police.
Despite denying the allegations during the initial interview, forensic tests provided irrefutable DNA evidence linking Upton to the crime, leading to his admission in court.
In addition to his prison sentence, Upton is required to sign the Sex Offender Register indefinitely and is subject to a restraining order to protect the victim.
Detective Constable Sallis commented, “This lengthy custodial sentence reflects the severity of what Upton did – something which he ultimately had no choice but to admit due to the strength of the forensic evidence against him.”
DC Sallis praised the victim's bravery in reporting the offence and expressed hope that the sentence provides closure despite the lasting impact of the crime.
