Gary Clifton, 61, of Water Street, Radcliffe, was sentenced to eight years in prison at Chester Crown Court on Tuesday, 11 November.
Clifton had pleaded guilty to 11 counts of burglary, one count of attempted burglary, and two counts of theft. Between 17 August 2024 and 19 May 2025, he targeted 14 properties across Cuddington, Davenham, and Hartford.
During his nine-month crime spree, Clifton often struck late at night or in the early hours, breaking into homes and outbuildings, and stealing items left in porches, such as parcels. The total value of stolen goods was approximately £15,500 and included sporting equipment, clothing, shoes, e-bikes, e-scooters, alcohol, food, and tools. A child’s bicycle taken from a Davenham driveway was later found abandoned at another property Clifton had burgled.
Investigators used CCTV footage to track a Ford Connect van seen at each of the burgled properties, which was linked to Clifton. His capture came on 20 May 2025, when ANPR cameras recorded the van traveling to Manchester. Cheshire Police arrested Clifton at his home, recovering a significant portion of the stolen items from both his property and the van.
Forensic officers also matched a pair of Slazenger trainers found at Clifton’s home to a footwear imprint left at one of the Hartford crime scenes, confirming his presence during the burglary.
Although Clifton initially denied involvement during police interviews, he eventually pleaded guilty to all 14 offences at Chester Crown Court on 10 November 2025 and was sentenced the following day.
