During a recent day of action in Stoke-on-Trent, police officers seized several weapons, including knives and a screwdriver, prompting calls for continued vigilance and community safety efforts.

The operation, conducted last Friday, 27th February, focused on Bentilee where officers worked with partners, including Stoke-on-Trent City Council, housing associations, and the Driver and Vehicle Licence Agency (DVLA), to address local concerns.

Weapon sweeps led to the confiscation of a knife from Beverley Park, another knife from Moss Green estate, and a screwdriver from Bentilee Park.

Sergeant Will Evans of the Stoke-on-Trent South Local Policing Team emphasised the significance of detecting potentially dangerous items: "The discovery of these weapons underlines the essential nature of our community days of action. Removing such items helps prevent potential harm in our neighborhoods."

The presence of knives and other dangerous items in public areas has sparked reactions from local officials and reaffirmed the importance of these community-focused initiatives.

Councillor Duncan Walker, Cabinet member for safe and resilient communities, praised the collaboration: “Finding and removing weapons from our community is crucial. It sends a powerful message that we are actively working to keep our neighborhoods safe.”

The day's efforts were not only focused on weapon sweeps but also included road safety checks, the removal of abandoned encampments, and engagement with residents through local events aimed at strengthening community ties.
