Police secure closure order against Warrington drug-dealing hub
Officers secured a three-month closure order against an address in Warrington that caused considerable disruption to residents.
On Wednesday 15th of July, police in Warrington were granted the three-month order against the property on Broadbent Avenue at Crewe Magistrates’ Court.
They successfully secured the order against the property after obtaining a substantial amount of evidence that drug dealing and usage had been taking place there.
Officers had also regularly responded to reports of anti-social behaviour at the address. Also, on more than one occasion, they'd located several outstanding and wanted criminals at the property.
Local residents had suffered significant disruption to their lives and feared repercussions from the occupant if they reached out to police to make a complaint.
However, residents felt confident enough after working alongside local Beat Management officers, to give evidence that was then submitted before the courts.
The closure will last for three months and the occupant will need to find alternative accommodation during that period. If anyone enters the property during this period, they could face a hefty fine or even a prison sentence.
Police Constable Andrew Schofield, of Warrington Local Policing Unit’s Neighbourhood Team, said:
“We heard the needs of the residents on Broadbent Avenue and how their lives were routinely affected by the poor behaviour exhibited by that of their neighbour. I hope that now this closure order is in place, they can rest that little bit easier without fear of any repercussions.
“I would like to thank the local Beat Manager for the area and their team, who worked alongside the residents of Broadbent Avenue and helped them build the confidence they needed to submit the formal reports to us that were vital in securing this closure order and getting this hub for illegal activity shut down.
