A former Cheshire Police officer has been barred from the profession after it was discovered he maintained a friendship with a convicted sex offender.

Philip Richard Reeves reportedly visited the offender in prison, knowing the nature of their conviction.

He also failed to report the relationship to police, which is policy.

A misconduct hearing heard he would have been fired for "breaching the standards of professional behaviour relating to Honesty and Integrity, Orders and Instructions and Discreditable Conduct" if he had not resigned just before the hearing.

He resigned on the 8 June whilst under investigation, two days before the misconduct hearing on 10 June.

He's been put on the College of Policing’s Barred List, meaning he'll never be able to re-enter the policing profession.

A College of Policing report states he breached standards by "maintaining an ongoing friendship with a convicted sex offender knowing the nature of the convictions, failed to declare the association to the offender, and provided misleading and dishonest accounts to the Professional Standards Department regarding the nature of the relationship."
