A 48-year-old man from Newcastle-under-Lyme has been sentenced to two years and nine months in prison for stalking, assault, and threatening to share intimate images.

Andrew Vaughan was jailed at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Monday, 18th May after he admitted to charges of stalking involving serious alarm or distress.

Between April 2025 and April 2026, Vaughan contacted the victim approximately 600 times via calls, texts, emails, and bank transfers in his pursuit to reach her.

On 14th March, Vaughan forcibly entered the victim's home, verbally abusing the victim, throwing his phone at her, gripping her wrists tightly, and slapping her across the face.

Days later, he threatened to send an intimate picture of the victim to her mother.

The victim reported these incidents, leading to Vaughan's arrest.

While in custody, Vaughan provided a pre-prepared statement denying all allegations and answered ‘no comment’ to further questioning.

PC Steven Cartwright, from the Staffordshire Moorlands local policing team, spearheaded the investigation.

He stated, “We worked tirelessly to gather evidence against Vaughan which led to him admitting the offences in court."

PC Cartwright praised the victim's courage in coming forward, expressing hope that the sentence signifies justice.
