A 19-year-old man who stabbed another man in broad daylight in Stafford has been jailed.

Matthew Shelton, of Stafford, has been sentenced to three-years-and-nine-months in prison.

He previously admitted section 18 – wounding with intent and possessing a knife in a public place.

The stabbing happened on Marston Road on 13th December 2025.

Stafford Crown Court heard how Shelton took out a knife and stabbed the victim, a man in his 40s, after a confrontation.

The pair were known to each other.

The victim suffered a wound to his hand and was hospitalised.

Detective Constable Hayley Taylor said: “Shelton inflicted harm on the victim in this case and chose to use violence, which we cannot stand for.

“This incident in particular was seen by lots of people who would have no doubt worried about why and how a man was stabbed in the street in broad daylight.

“I’m happy we’ve been able to build the evidence needed to secure the conviction.”
