A man has been jailed for six years and put on the Sex Offender's register for life after raping a woman in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
Marin Covaci, who's 37-years-old, appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Thursday 4th September.
He's also been given an indefinite restraining order against the survivor.
A Staffordshire police spokesperson said "Marin Covaci, of Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, picked up the survivor in Kidsgrove in December 2023. He told her he would drive her home.
"When she got in, he drove to a layby, locked the car, and raped her.
"After it happened, the survivor bravely told someone about the incident. We started investigating after receiving the report and arrested Covaci the next day.
"He was charged with rape of a woman and causing a female to engage in sexual activity. He denied the offences in court.
"Through the sheer bravery of the survivor and the evidence we’ve gathered during the investigation, the jury found Covaci guilty on both counts at an earlier hearing.
