Man arrested after reported assault in Cheadle

A man has been arrested following reports of a serious assault and rape in Cheadle.

Police were called to an address on the High Street at around 9.15pm on Thursday 27 March after receiving a report that a woman had been assaulted inside a flat.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment. During the course of the investigation, officers subsequently received a further report of rape.

On Monday 19 May, a 29-year-old man from Cheadle was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault by beating. He has since been released on bail with conditions as enquiries continue.

A police spokesperson confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing.
