Firefighters have spent the night tackling a huge blaze that tore through homes on Station Road in Mow Cop.

At its height, 9 fire engines, specialist units and crews from both Cheshire and Staffordshire were called in after two detached bungalows were engulfed in flames.

A nearby house was also badly damaged, with its garage and surrounding area left burnt out.

All residents have been safely accounted for, but the fire service says around 20 neighbouring homes may be without power as electricity was cut off for safety.

Phone lines are not affected, and utility teams are working to restore supplies as quickly as possible.

Police shut Station Road while emergency services dealt with the fire, and people living nearby were urged to keep windows and doors closed because of the heavy smoke.

Relief crews remain at the scene overnight to keep water on the affected homes and prevent any further spread.
