Five Romanian men have been jailed after travelling from Luton to Northwich to burgle £50,000-worth of tools.
Chester Magistrates' Court heard how on the evening of 19th February, five men broke into a commercial premises on Griffiths Road, Northwich.
They stole £50,000 worth of power tools and copper cabling before fleeing.
Police managed to track down a white Ford Transit van involved in the burglary to Luton.
They established who was insured on the van, Paul Matei, and found the stolen tools in his house.
Four other men, Oprea Elvis-Paris, Renato-Mario Grosu, Florian State, and Cezar Tudoran, were arrested at the address also.
The sentences
All five men pleaded guilty to burglary, they include:
Oprea Elvis-Paris, 20, of Woodville Road, Leicester - jailed for eight months.
Renato-Mario Grosu, 18, of Liston Close, Luton - jailed for eight months.
Florian State, 22, of Trent Road, Luton - jailed for eight months.
Cezar Tudoran, 30, of Poole Street, Northampton – jailed for 10 months.
Paul Matei, 37, of Liston Close, Luton - jailed for 12 months.
"A significant level of planning"
Detective Sergeant John Lyons of Northwich Proactive CID said:
“This burglary involved a significant level of planning, with the offenders travelling halfway across the country to carry out their crime.
“They deliberately targeted a commercial premises, resulting in losses of more than £50,000 worth of equipment and causing considerable disruption to the business."
