Lorry driver killed in M6 crash
It happened near Newcastle-under-Lyme
One person has died and a second has been taken to hospital after a crash involving a car and a lorry, last night (27th February).
West Midlands Ambulance Service says it was called to the M6 southbound between junction 16 and 15 near Newcastle-under-Lyme at 9.55pm and sent an ambulance, a paramedic officer, a BASICS emergency doctor, a MERIT trauma doctor with a critical care paramedic and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car from Cosford to the scene.
A West Midlands Ambulance spokeswoman said: “On arrival crews found two men. The first patient, the driver of the lorry, was found in a critical condition and sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him, and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.
“The second patient, the driver of the car, was treated for potentially serious injuries before being conveyed under blue lights and sirens to Royal Stoke University Hospital.”
The stretch of the southbound carriageway between Crewe and Stoke-on-Trent is expected to remain closed for most of today (Friday 28 February) while police carry out their investigations at the scene.
