A man from Cheshire who strangled a woman and threatened her not to tell anyone has been jailed.

33-year-old Lloyd McNicholas, from Alsager, has been jailed for two-years-and-three-months.

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard how in August last year, McNicholas strangled the victim at her home in Smallthorne, causing her to nearly pass out.

Mc Nicholas later threatened her not to report what happened.

He pleaded guilty in court to intentional strangulation and intimidating a witness / juror, despite initially denying the offences in police interviews.

Detective Constable Jessica Hill said: “McNicholas subjected his victim to a violent and spontaneous attack, before threatening more violence if she told us what had happened.

“I hope this sentencing shows that we are committed to protecting victims and are here to support you if you’re ready to talk to us.”
